Jim has retired from the full time practice of law but he still drops in from time to time to check in on us.

Jim has practiced exclusively in the area of litigation for over 30 years, with extensive experience in a broad range of matters, including:

• Administrative Law
• Civil Litigation
• Commercial Litigation
• Municipal Law
• Oil and Gas Disputes
• Regulatory Hearings
• Product Liability Litigation

Appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2008, Jim is a founding lawyer of Wilson Laycraft. He has an active appellate practice. His current practice also focuses on representing individuals and corporations before various administrative tribunals, including:

• The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC)
• The Alberta Utilities Commission
• The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER)
• The Municipal Government Board
• Various Assessment Review Boards

He also has an extensive administrative law practice before the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench and the Alberta Court of Appeal. Clients are often referred to Jim from major law firms for independent advice.

Jim has also recently acted with Gilbert J. Ludwig and other counsel at Wilson Laycraft representing corporate taxpayers on a significant number of industrial property tax assessment cases.

Community & Professional Involvement

A lifelong resident of Calgary, Jim is active in the arts community. In his spare time, Jim enjoys travel and spends as much time as he can in the mountains—fishing, hiking and snowboarding.
