Shiv Ganesh

Shiv maintains a litigation and alternate dispute resolution practice, with a focus on corporate/commercial, personal injury, insurance and risk management, product liability, professional liability, and securities litigation. Prior to joining Wilson Laycraft, Shiv worked at regional and national law firms where he gained extensive experience while working on complex, multi-party litigation. He has advocated before the Alberta Court of Justice, Court of King’s Bench, Mutual Fund Dealers’ Association and Alberta Securities Commission.

Shiv’s advanced degree in molecular biology, which he obtained prior to earning his law degree, has proven invaluable in his ability to grasp technical details. This scientific background, combined with the legal knowledge and business acumen assists Shiv in providing his clients with informed and proactive advice.

Shiv firmly believes that quality litigation services can be delivered with cost certainty. His clients appreciate the creative, custom-designed, alternative fee retainer arrangements including the contingency fee, flat fee, blended fee, and subscription fee-based arrangements.

Representative Experience:

  • Personal Injury: Shiv has years of experience handling large loss and complex personal injury claims relating to both motor vehicle accidents and slip and falls. Shiv has worked on numerous cases involving traumatic brain injuries, complex fractures, and chronic pain.

  • Complex Insurance Coverage Opinions and Disputes: Shiv’s clients routinely retain him to provide coverage opinions involving policies of insurance ranging from standard automobile policies and cargo/transportation policies to commercial general liability and wrap-up liability policies. Shiv is also adept at handling disputes against insurance companies.

  • Financial and Securities Litigation: Shiv has successfully represented financial advisors, life insurance agents, MGAs, and exempt market dealing representatives. Shiv has also represented mutual fund dealing representatives in investigations and hearings commenced by the Mutual Fund Dealers Association.

  • Construction and Professional Liability: Shiv has in-depth experience and has successfully represented owners, general contractors, subcontractors, architects, and engineers in complex construction disputes.

When Shiv is not tirelessly advocating for his clients, you can find him running or cycling along the Bow River with his wife and son.
