Robert Stack

Robert Stack practices in the area of litigation. He is recognised by his peers for his written and oral advocacy skills and his technical knowledge of the law. Robert has particular expertise in securities litigation and professional regulation. He has appeared before administrative bodies in regulatory and securities matters and courts in quasi-criminal cases. He has dealt with cases involving allegations of misrepresentations, fraud, insider trading, registration and financial disclosure violations. He has also acted for investors to recover investment funds.

Robert has broad experience in employment law, general commercial litigation, director and officer liability, property loss cases, insurance, constitutional and administrative law. In the area of employment, he provides advice to both employers and employees.

Recent experience includes:

• Acted for numerous parties on matters involving the Alberta Securities Commission, including a recent multi-week hearing involving allegations of fraud.
• Acted on behalf of a Director in a major Provincial Court prosecution under the Safety Codes Act.
• Secured a judgement over $850,000 in an investor recovery matter.
• Successfully secured the complete recovery of principal in an investment recovery action against an issuer and broker.
• Acting for numerous senior executives and technical experts in wrongful dismissal claims ranging in value from $200,000 to $2,000,000.
• Represented employees in complex wrongful terminations involving breach of contract, misrepresentation and “common employer” issues.
• Continued to advise numerous mid-sized business on general employment matters, including issues relating to Covid-19, Occupational Health and Safety and privacy.

Robert served as Chair of the Civil Litigation Subsection of the CBA for Southern Alberta. He has been a board member for Heritage Soccer. He has coached both youth soccer and hockey and volunteered with Beavers and Cub Scouts. With his wife and son Nicolas, Robert enjoys skiing, golf, running, hiking and travel.
